When I provided a presentation for a lovely group of Educators, I brought some snacks along. Introducing the Chocolate Hummus!
I said I would provide the recipe and what a better way to share it than here for you all!
It is a wacky concept, Hummus and Chocolate combined. I know it is not a cup of tea for everyone, but when you are looking for a way to curve your love of sugar and add some extra nutrients into your food, this is a great option.
I usually pair it with strawberries as well as graham crackers. However, after I made it, my kids were asking for a smoothie and we added the chocolate hummus to our strawberry smoothies. It was a hit, since the hummus itself was not 100% accepted by all the kids. If you like that Idea, I can share that recipe as well :)
Ingredients
1- 15 oz can of chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup peanut butter or sun butter
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder
1/3 cup pure maple syrup (use ½ cup if you like a sweeter hummus!)
1/4 cup vanilla almond milk, plus more if necessary to thin
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup mini chocolate chips (dairy free if desired)
Instructions
Add all the ingredients (besides the chocolate chips) to a food processor or blender and process until smooth, adding more milk if necessary to thin to make it into a nice dip that’s the consistency of frosting. Stir in mini chocolate chips and sprinkle more on top once finished.
Serve in a bowl on a platter with strawberries, raspberries, pretzels/pretzel thins, graham crackers or anything you like!
Hummus will keep in the fridge for up to a week.
